IMPORTANT
INFORMATION FOR STUDENTS NEW TO THE MARTIAL ARTS
Up
to twenty years ago, one could join any martial arts school
and be assured of receiving the full scope of the martial
arts in his training. Unfortunately this is not true today,
and the necessity of a basic understanding of the martial
arts is more important than ever when choosing a school. When
the martial arts became commercialized in the mid 1970’s,
many schools started to specialize and reduce what they offered
the public. The focus on character development and extraordinary
mental and spiritual abilities gave way to sport karate and
seven year old black belt ‘masters’.
Today
the public doesn’t really know what to expect or look
for in beginning the martial arts. As a public service the
A.C.K. offers a FREE ORIENTATION LECTURE
AND DEMONSTRATION which will educate any prospective student
on which style and school will best supply what he is personally
seeking. It puts the history, purposes, and different approaches
of the various styles in an understandable perspective which
will enable the student to correctly choose the type of training
experience which will suite him best and the type of school
which focuses on his particular goals. The lecture also addresses
commons pitfalls one must avoid when choosing a new school,
like committing to contracts, and how to evaluate a new school's
program. Illuminating demonstrations make the differences
between the various martial arts styles understandable, and
also clarify the difference between physical, mental, and
spiritual training. The intriguing conclusion concerns ones’
role and purpose in life and makes for an entertaining and
thought provoking experience. This is a ‘must’
for new or continuing students in the martial arts who need
to become better informed, before committing to any particular
school or training approach. Join us and enjoy this helpful
presentation.
